Former Hillsborough American Legion post commander sentenced to prison in $40,000 theft

MANCHESTER, NH – The former commander of the Hillsborough American Legion Post was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for stealing more than $40,000 from the Legion’s accounts.

Bryan S. Dillon, 39, of 15 Washington Circle was sentenced Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, in Hillsborough County Superior Court Northern District after being found guilty of theft by unauthorized taking.

Over an eight-month period Dillon routinely withdrew funds from Hillsborough American Legion Post 59’s accounts without authorization.

The case was investigated by Hillsborough police detective Ethan Vaillancourt and prosecuted by Assistant Hillsborough County Attorneys Patrick Ives and Laura Del Camp, with the assistance of paralegal Jordan Baer.

Dillon also was ordered to pay restitution to the Post, have no contact with the staff, and hold no leadership role in any other non-profit organization.

He will have the opportunity to petition for parole after one year.
