Do you like lottery scratch tickets? I’ll say this upfront – I do. The purpose of this column is not to shame anyone who likes them, too. Maybe that’s you. For the purposes of the point I’ll eventually get to, let’s say you buy a $5 scratch ticket every week. Sometimes you don’t win anything. Sometimes you win $5 or $10. Even $20 or $50. If you’re lucky, you’ve won more than once or twice. Let’s say that your dream, for purposes of the eventual point, is to win $50,000 (or more!), so you can buy a new car, pay off your credit cards, have a downpayment for a house, or something like that.

More than 200 event-goers braved snow, ice and high winds on Thursday, April 4, to support Girls Inc. of New Hampshire’s annual Fuel Her Fire gala and auction at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua. The event raised more than $245,000 for Girls, Inc., setting the bar as the non-profit organization’s most successful fundraiser to date.

A termination meeting for Director of Housing Stability Adrienne Beloin scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. was officially canceled about 15 minutes before it was to start after an agreement was reached between attorneys representing both the city and Beloin, who has instead resigned.

In light of the current shake-up at City Hall, including Mayor Ruais’ decision Friday to place Director of Housing Stability Adrienne Beloin – King’s boss – on administrative leave, King on Tuesday met with the mayor to make sure they are on the same page about what’s best for the 40+ individuals receiving shelter from the city, and the progress that’s been made.
