The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (7-8) lost to the Portland Sea Dogs (9-4) in the final game of the six-game series Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field, 8-5. New Hampshire had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh and the game’s tying run at the plate in the ninth, but could not capitalize on either chance.

I can’t remember exactly how it originally came up, but one night I was out with Manchester Ink Link’s publisher Carol Robidoux, and the topic of baseball and the Fisher Cats came up. I remember expressing an interest in writing some feature pieces on the team—the organization and its personalities, the park and its idiosyncrasies, the fans and minor league baseball culture.

Kim Bourque, a wife and mother of two living out of Hampstead, elected to play tackle football for the first time in 2023. When she first signed on to the team, she was 41. With her birthday in July, she turned 42 by the time she went to the WFA’s All-American game at the end of July 2023.

After Wednesday’s rainout, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (4-1) battled through misting droplets and cold temperatures Thursday night to take down the Somerset Patriots (2-3) at Delta Dental Stadium 6-3. The hearty fans watched the Fisher Cats club 13 hits; New Hampshire has reached double digits in the hit column in each of its past three games. Shortstop Josh Kasevich, third baseman Alex De Jesus and catcher Phil Clark had three knocks apiece.
