Manchester Proud (MP) is excited to announce the new leadership team of Debby Miller and Aimee Kereage as Co-Directors. Debby and Aimee will report to the Champion’s Council (Manchester Proud’s Board) continuing the momentum that Manchester Proud has built up over the past 6 years under Barry Brensinger’s leadership. Barry has made the decision to step down from his leadership role to enjoy retirement, he will remain a member of the Council and involved in MP’s work.

Each year on the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice, members of the community gather at Veterans Park to commemorate local homeless individuals who have died. This year, members of community gathered again on the longest day of the year to celebrate homeless individuals who have survived. Additionally, those at the gathering also shared their thoughts on how to help others find their way out of homelessness.

New Hampshire’s population grew by about 23,400 (1.7 percent) between July 2020 and July 2023, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Recently-released data show that growth was not evenly distributed among communities within New Hampshire. Within the state, 25 communities had population declines between July 2020 and July 2023, while 88 grew more slowly than the state overall, and 120 had faster growth rates.

Br. Isaac Murphy, O.S.B., has been elected the sixth abbot of Saint Anselm Abbey. Abbot Isaac has made history for being the first non-ordained abbot in the United States. The abbatial election was concluded on Monday, June 17, after Abbot Isaac’s election received permission from the Holy See, the supreme body of government of the Catholic Church.

The fourth in an ongoing series of Black History plaques was unveiled on June 14 at City Hall Plaza, named “Caesar, Caesar,” honoring Caesar Griffin and Caesar Harvey – two Black residents of Derryfield during the 1700s, who Garrity has identified as Manchester first Black landowners.
