A Webster Elementary fourth grade teacher is earning national recognition for bringing hockey into the classroom in an innovative way. Emily Vandeventer has been named a finalist for the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association Most Valuable Teacher Award, which honors educators who use the sport as a meaningful educational tool.

The Board of School Committee on April 14 approved the hiring of Southside Middle School Principal Kelly Espinola as the new Assistant Superintendent of High Schools and Operations. She will replace Assistant Superintendent Forrest Ransdell, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

During West High’s lunch periods on Tuesday, a steady flow of students made their way toward voting booths set up by the City Clerk.
