The parish’s first church, located on South Beech Street, had become too small to accommodate a growing community in the early 2000s. When the announcement was made that St. Teresa Roman Catholic Church on Mitchell Street was to be closed, Fr. Thomas approached Bishop John McCormack about purchasing the property.

On September 7th, the Director of Homelessness Initiatives resigned from her position, and since that time, I, alongside City departments, non-profits, and national partners have been working together to determine the best way for the City to move forward. These efforts are ongoing, but we want to update you on progress that has been made.

In all her years of service to her community — as an educator, a state representative and Ward 9 alderman – Barbara Shaw was a study in persistence, tenacity and how to get things done. For more than four decades she tirelessly served her constituents, celebrated her students as they went on to become husbands, wives, mothers, fathers and community leaders, and most of all, cherished her own family.
