Proponents of this bill want you to believe it is about contracts. That is far from the truth. This is about human beings who have a right to security and the ability to envision their futures without having to worry that they will have to start over again and again because they ask for a reasonable accommodation, have children with support needs, or acquire a disability.

You haven’t heard from me in a few months. I do hope you enjoyed the respite, because that silence has ended, beginning today with a mea culpa. I apologize to all the InkLink readers who contacted me offering support, to the members of Hope Nation who kept me in their prayers, to the countless folks in the larger recovery community who sent texts and emails of love and support, to my old Army buddy, Ryszard Guziewicz, to the InkLink’s Editor/Publisher/Grand-Poohbah, Carol Robidoux, and to dozens of others. I am sorry. I didn’t respond to many of your inquiries about my health, each sent with love and compassion. It was wrong but necessary to have isolated in a cocoon composed of my wife and daughters, along with a very small group of close friends.  Thank you all, and please accept my apology.

Gyllenhaal shows off all of his Academy Award-nominated chops as the soft-spoken Elwood Dalton. Notice that the character does not have the same given name as Swayze’s character in the original film. Gyllanhaal’s Elwood Dalton is not, in fact, the same character as Swayze’s James Dalton, although they’re both referred to simply as “Dalton.”

The destruction of DEI

Already in 2024, Zoom, Home Depot, Wayfair, Snap, and Lyft have all cut their DEI teams by at least 50%, some completely eliminating the roles. At the educational levels, we’ve seen Harvard, University of Florida, and Johns Hopkins all eliminate the entirety of their DEI teams, or fold under the pressure of political interference while accepting the termination or resignation of their most visible DEI leaders and advocates – the vast majority of whom are women of color, and Black women to be specific.

The case for having my birthday off

However, as I’ve gotten older, some of the joy of celebrating my dramatic comeback has subsided and—aside from a few rites of passages at the end of another decade of spinning around the sun—my birthday now goes largely unnoticed. This needs to change. And not just for me. For everyone.

At a recent Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce event on March 11, Chris Sununu responded to a question from an audience member asking how New Hampshire can provide a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community. He replied that we’re doing well on LGBTQ+ inclusion and followed up by saying, “I tend not to focus on that stuff. Government isn’t here to solve it.” He later commented that he isn’t for discrimination.  Maybe he should act like it.

Palm Sunday: Holy Week and the symbolism of the palm branch

Symbolically, Palm Sunday is a declaration of victory over sin. It marks the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry as, this week would be his last week before dying on Good Friday. All of the events of Holy Week would be understood more clearly after Christ’s resurrection, Sunday morning. Palm Sunday was a procession of a king of another kind. One that would die to save His people, and die to pay for the sins of the whole world.

Our children deserve the most qualified person for the job. Just as Mark Zuckerberg wouldn’t hire me to run Meta, no matter how much I might surf Facebook and Instagram, New Hampshire shouldn’t be appointing someone with no experience working in public schools to oversee all programs and standards for our public schools.

However, despite possessing a background voters would likely view favorably, and demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the issues, Jon Kiper has struggled to obtain media attention. For example, his name is frequently omitted from lists of candidates, and when included, is often framed as an addendum: “Former Newmarket Town Councilor Jon Kiper is also in the race.”

I am a lifelong New Hampshire resident. I am also a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. As a member of the professional recovery community, and as a person in recovery, I strongly object to the candidacy of Cinde Warmington, a lobbyist for Purdue Pharma.

On Thursday March 14, 2024, at our House Session, ALL Manchester Democrats did a good thing. We all voted against indefinitely postponing HB 1254-Local (as written, this bill would have enabled a municipality to collect a public safety assessment on hotel occupancies for the purpose of public safety associated with the increase in tourism and transient traffic.)

On March 13, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 352-65 to force the owners of TikTok to sell the app in six months or face a nationwide ban. (The good news is that the bill still has to pass the Senate and – if it does – will head to the President to sign). Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D – NY) has been noncommittal as to when he will schedule the bill for a floor vote. For those keeping score, the bill, (H.R. 7521 – officially called The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, was introduced by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R – WI).

Plastic. The world is swimming in it. Oceans. Landfills. Even our arteries. That, according to a recent study released in the March 7 edition of New England Journal of Medicine.  Researchers studied the specimens of 304 patients who had undergone carotid endarterectomies – a procedure that removes plaque from dangerously narrowing arteries in the neck to avert stroke and/or heart attack.
