I recently visited our local Barnes & Noble and was overwhelmed by the number and variety of print magazines for all interests. From men- and women-focused themes, to photography, knitting, sports of all kinds, health and wellness, soap operas, high fashion, DIY, and so much more.

This isn’t my original idea, of course. I was first introduced to it while watching an interview with author Dennis Lehane, the Boston native who wrote the best-selling novels “Mystic River,” “Gone Baby Gone” and “Shutter Island.” In the interview, Lehane explains how he carried around a three-by-five card with the words “Nobody cares” scrawled on it when he was starting as a writer.

In Goffstown, a group of parents calling themselves Goffstown Parents in Action are asking for a seat at the table in their school district when it comes to decisions regarding the safety of their students. In May of 2022, after the Robb Elementary tragedy, the group of parents met in the boardroom at Girls at Work in Manchester for the first time to talk about how they could organize to make small or large changes to make their children’s schools safer.

In 2020, New Hampshire ranked 7th in total voter turnout with 75.5% of registered voters casting a ballot (1). Knowing this, why do New Hampshire voters only elect one statewide executive? Shouldn’t voters have the greatest impact on who runs our state? Consistently, the election for New Hampshire Secretary of State has been extremely competitive and close.

This time of the year, the couple days before new year, hits different for me since Little Bean was born. I’ve never written in detail about those days when she was born, and I won’t now. Fortunately, my wife Liz and I have adequately prepared to remain in comfortable clothing while lounging on the couch for days, watching endless stretches of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and gorging ourselves with a diet that would make our primary care physicians blush at its immodesty—as well as the cholesterol intake.
