The AI revolution has arrived!

With the rapid development and all the talk surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI), I wanted to write about the basics. I am still learning and am not a data scientist, but my hope is that I leave you with at least a basic understanding of AI, its history, and the desire to learn more. Because like it or not, AI is here and is already affecting our everyday lives.

Trump is messing with my meditations

But the idea of Trump being re-elected keeps me in the future, frantic with worry. For those people—on both sides of the political aisle—who haven’t been listening to the bone-chilling statements the former president and his toadies have been spewing on the campaign trail lately, may I suggest that you start.

Chews Life Now! Have a Very Vegan Christmas

I know what a lot of you are thinking. This is the time of year when it won’t hurt to cheat a little and you’re right!  It’s the holidays. Duh! So, while I wouldn’t normally endorse sugar, processed plant-based foods from the frozen section – they’re really high in fats and sodium – or vegan cheeses and spreads for the same reasons, you don’t want to fall off the vegan wagon.

You’re in recovery when you say you’re in recovery

In one major part of my life, I didn’t always take such a moderate view. Since May 21, 2007, thanks to a program of recovery that remains central to my life, I have not found it necessary to drink or use any mind-altering substance. Over these 6,058 days, I’ve worked hard to become the kind of man my mother dreamed I’d someday be. I have, without boasting, made, and continue to make, progress on that goal. That is how I define my recovery.

My wife bears the burden of gift giving

I knew it when I woke up that morning, lying in bed after hitting snooze for the third time, staring at my alarm clock and watching the digits and waiting for the next staticky blast of classic rock. When depression descends, I feel it on a cellular level, in the marrow of my bones, and contrary to what some may believe, depression doesn’t always manifest in melancholy.

According to a recent estimate by the Manchester Assessors Office, the city will be losing approximately $6,000,000 total in property tax revenue over the next five years due to tax relief granted to the developer of the apartment project on W. Auburn Street, across from the downtown Market Basket.

On choosing to live

Three weeks ago, on my 65th birthday, my body was pierced, robots were inserted into my lungs to extract a tumor and some lymph nodes, the booty was sent off for analysis to high priests of science, I was pumped full of painkillers for two days, and I foiled a plot to kill me.

There’s no need to fear, D&P Undercar is here

Like a gang of superheroes for your cars and trucks, they’re ready to help and literally at your beck and call (603-627-3552) located at 55 Calef Road (just off Elm Street). I was referred to them because I needed a new exhaust system for my little old 1989 Toyota pickup truck and had gotten quotes that were very different (in a good way) from what I got from D&P, so I went for it.

Shopping local this holiday season

The Christmas shopping season is here once again. I personally love finding a gift for the people on my list that is both meaningful and fits their personality, so quite enjoy the shopping element of the holiday. The gifts do not need to be large or expensive, they are simply gifts that are well thought out. I love finding that “one-of-a-kind” gift.

Who’ll stop the gray? (Sung to the tune by CCR, ‘Who’ll Stop the Rain’)

I came across a Facebook support group for women undergoing this transformation. Their reasons were varied, as were their ages. Women in their 20s and 30s who wanted to embrace their early gray (but then, they had their sun-kissed young faces), more mature women who were ready to become their “real selves” as well as those who wanted to take back the two hours of time (and money) on a regular, monthly basis spent in the stylist’s chair. That Facebook group, however, didn’t feature anyone who had short, curly hair like mine. ☹

Welcome to The Christmas Cave

What makes this a dirty little secret for me is that my love for Christmas music and decorations runs antithetical to the wise-ass, cynical disposition I try to cultivate for most of the calendar year. It’s as if the moment I rinse my Thanksgiving dinner plate and place it in the dishwasher, I turn into Buddy the Elf.
