The stakes are high in this year’s midterm election, taking place November 8. It will determine who represents New Hampshire in a variety of offices, from Congress to the State House. What should residents know about voting in the upcoming election?  Melanie Plenda, host of NH PBS’s The State We’re In,  speaks with New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan and Director of the NH. Waypoint President & CEO Borja Alvarez de Toledo and Major Joyce Craig were joined by approximately 125 staff, donors, architects, construction workers, politicians and interested Manchester citizens to celebrate the ribbon cutting at 298 Hanover St. on a 14-bed Youth Resource Center and Overnight Emergency Shelter. Seven of the beds are considered nightly while seven are available on a two-week basis. It is the only emergency shelter for youth and young adults in the state and will serve the age range of 12 to 24. The facility will be open 24/7.

With this funding, Lincoln Avenue Capital, a firm out of Santa Monica, CA, will construct two buildings of affordable housing, one at 351 Chestnut Street, the site of the former police station, and a second replacing a parking lot across the street at the corner of Chestnut Street and Merrimack Street. Together, these projects will create approximately 142 studio, one, and two-bedroom units, affordable for individuals at 0-60 percent AMI (Area Median Income).

The brief press conference held Monday at Manchester Police headquarters was the formal announcement by local and state law enforcement officials that Adam Montgomery was charged at about 10:30 a.m. with murdering his daughter, Harmony Montgomery, in 2019. He is facing four new charges – second-degree murder, falsifying physical evidence, abuse of a corpse and tampering with a witness, Aldenberg said.

“After waiting several months, we learned that without notice or explanation, additional Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) funds for New Hampshire have been rejected while 28 other states around the country have been given the resources for their program to continue,” Governor Chris Sununu said Thursday. “With skyrocketing inflation, cold weather and the holiday season, this is the absolute worst time for the federal government to take this step.”
