Sunday June 8, 2025 was the first ever Prouty event in Manchester. The Prouty is the largest fundraising event in Northern New England, run by Dartmouth Hitchcock. This is the 44th anniversary of the Prouty, but the first year they brought the family-friendly event to Southern New Hampshire.

I still think of Rachel every year around this time, as my Facebook feed fills with mortar-board hats, acceptance letters, and congratulatory yard signs, and I wonder how many of those gleeful graduates have their next several decades mapped out, and how many are secretly terrified by their lack of a map.  I was terrified at graduation, and for decades afterwards; but I can say now that loved the journey, and I love where it brought me.

State leaders are limiting the ability to meet the differing needs of Granite Staters. By inserting sections 451 and 452 into the State Budget (HB 2), they would ban all programs tailored to people based on their age, disability status, gender, or race, among other factors. This applies to state, municipal, and school programs.

I’m particularly fond of using the term “douchebag” when referring to someone deserving of contempt. I’ve been drawn to the word since I first watched the iconic SNL skit set in the Victorian-era with Lord and Lady Douchebag.  

But what exactly is a douchebag? Where did the term originate? And, more importantly, how can we positively identify a douchebag?
