I wrote about an accident that I had in February in this column when it happened. In short, I was moving a futon into my basement, skipped a step on the stairs and face-planted, breaking my nose and fracturing my two front teeth. As it turned out, my front teeth needed to be extracted and replaced with dental implants and new crowns.
Manchester is my home. I love this city, and I’m here to stay. We’ve had great economic success the past couple of years, but if we don’t balance it out by strengthening our social and physical infrastructure, it will all be for naught.

Many of us crank up the party music when the weather gets warm and we can open the car windows to blast our favorite music out to the world. As a Boomer, I especially love having “my” music play as I pull up to a stop light where the car next to me is blaring something from the 21st century that I never heard of.
Let’s be real – some workplaces just don’t feel good. You can sense it the moment you walk in (been there before.) Employees are checked out, leadership is disconnected, and meetings feel more like a waste of time than a space for collaboration. I’ve been in meetings that felt like they were designed for the people running them, not for the people attending. They weren’t balanced, they weren’t brain-friendly, and they didn’t leave room for real discussion.
There’s something achingly beautiful about landmarks. They connect to something deep within us we use to place ourselves in the larger world. Maybe, for you, it’s the sight of the Millyard, glimpsed from 93, lit up at night. Maybe it’s that first “Moose Crossing” sign on your way north. Maybe it’s classic Manchester, like the Red Arrow. Whatever the landmark, they are anchors in our personal geography – how we know we are home, or very nearly there.

I have a mental illness. As multiple MAGA supporters have pointed out to me, I suffer from a crippling case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), and I need help.
Trump’s tariffs have affected nearly every aspect of my businesses – from the cost of glass vases to packing tape to the flowers we import from Canada – they are all becoming more expensive. To break it down even further, we anticipate that the annual additional costs from the tariffs will range from $55,000 to $80,000 per year, equivalent to the cost of two full-time employees.
Mental illness isn’t a crime, but too often, law enforcement treats it like one. I recently watched a body cam video of a woman being arrested – not for committing a violent offense, but because she took her prescribed medication the wrong way. Instead of swallowing it, she snorted it, which led to paranoia and psychotic behavior. As she became increasingly agitated, officers repeatedly questioned her instead of calling for mental health professionals. The longer they delayed, the worse she got, ultimately spitting at them out of distress.
