During their Tuesday, May 20th meeting, the Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) Committee on Accounts and Administration voted to recommend that a question be put to the voters this fall on whether the Manchester School District (MSD) should be a department of the city government. However, it remains to be seen what exactly that will mean.

According to a police narrative of the incident, on May 2, 2025, at approximately 1 a.m., a ShotSpotter aler — an acoustic gunshot detection system used by the city — was triggered in the area of 429 Wilson Street. As officers responded, dispatch received a separate 911 call reporting that a person had been shot.

The Board of School Committee gathered on Monday, May 19 for a special meeting to discuss budgetary next steps forward on what reductions should be made to bridge the approximately $9.5 million gap between the school district’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget bottom line they recommended to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and the budget that the Board of Mayor and Aldermen ultimately approved.

Attorney General John M. Formella is part of a bipartisan coalition of 40 state attorneys general that has sent a letter to Congress voicing opposition to a sweeping amendment to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s budget reconciliation bill. The amendment would impose a 10-year prohibition on states from enforcing any laws or regulations addressing artificial intelligence (AI) and automated decision-making systems.
